Barton gets his money, Newcastle foot bill
The protracted transfer of troubled Joey Barton from Manchester City to Newcastle United is finally complete.
The final transfer sum is for 5.8m pounds and for a five-year deal. The previous deal was for 5.5m but Newcastle, in a bid to end a dispute over a 300k pound loyalty clause Barton felt entitled to, upped their offer and completed the transfer deal.
Manchester City insisted they did not force him to leave and didn’t actively try to sell him so didn’t have to pay. My opinion is that they shouldn’t have to pay because Barton disgraced the club. How could he ask for the money after all the embarrassments he’s created?
It looks like a face saving measure for both sides in the row, but it’s the Magpies who are basically paying Barton his 300k. Sam Allardyce was angered and criticized City for the delay: I’m sure he wouldn’t have done the same in their position, nor would he have kept it private. It took the Professional Footballers' Association to resolve the situation.
Barton made his debut for Manchester City in 2003 and has never been away from controversy: critical of England players, a training ground beating of teammate Ousmane Dabo, stubbing out a cigar in teammate Jamie Tandy's eye during a Christmas party, and let’s not forget him beating on a school kid when they were in Thailand for a pre-season tour in 2005.
Should Barton even be allowed to play in the Premiership anymore?
I hope Newcastle know what they are getting into. This bully makes Craig Bellamy and Laurent Robert look like saints. Hold your noses, Joey is coming:

a right tosser, on our pitch now!
Loads of energy ets round the pitch could be good, however tries to be better than he is cannot take a corner or freekick , use his energy and he'll do well for you not worth 5 million mind.
Lost Scott parker and we,ve got this thieving scouse git
Big Sam signing seems like were in for a fighting season. Not Happy Toon Army
Did he not want to play for us 15 million contract ans still wanted the extra. Great looks like we signed someone who plays for money not for the shirt.
are we supposed to be happy? we lose a good guy, dedicated guy in scott parker for this f*in ameteur boxer
Joey Barton is a pretty good player I think and hope he sorts is attitude out if he does you Newcastle have a good player.
I wish he could have fitted in at City prev comments Barton could be really good with Parker has he gone yet.
Allaydyce out now
Get things right before commenting - the 300k Barton wanted was the last instalment on his signing on fee, it wasn't a 'loyalty' bonus. Don't knock the kid for wanting what was his, if you want to find someone to knock try saintly Michael Owen who is desperate to leave after two injury hit years - he's not happy with 120k a WEEK for doing nothing, 13 games in two years, he is a disgrace if he goes.
Rubbish mate. Who cares what the money is for, he should be ashamed of his behavior and leave it on the table as a gesture to the club he disgraced.
Oh, and Owen, I agree... comes, sits, collects, leaves
Great looks like we signed someone who plays for money not for the shirt.
