Zola’s brilliant flick

Gianfranco Zola will always be remembered as a timeless favorite at Chelsea for his amazing durability and eternal youth. He scored what I think is the greatest goal from a corner ever against Norwich City.

Graeme Le Saux lined up the corner from the right and took it short, too short in fact because it left all those players coming forward stranded for a chance on goal and exposed for a counter attack.

Zola charged the near post and changed his line to meet the short ball leaving him at a very tight angle towards goal. 99% of players would have tried to dump the ball into the box and hope for some luck, but Zola decided to make an audacious back heel flick-on with his right foot to redirect the ball into the top right corner of the net. It was a brilliant piece of invention by the talented Italian.

Yeah that was good, but did you see Roberto Mancini's backheel from a corner for Lazio in '98-'99. With his back to goal and in the air, amazing!!
