Liverpool make low-ball bid

Liverpool chief executive Rick Parry today confirmed that the club has made an offer for West Ham midfielder Yossi Benayoun. The reaction from Premiership survivors West Ham was not positive, as the player had already agreed verbally to a new 5 year deal.

It appears that West Ham are also angered by the amount of the offer labeling it ‘insulting’, it’s thought to be as little as 1m pounds and responded by telling Liverpool that Benayoun is not for sale. West Ham plan talks this week to convince Benayoun to stay on where his new contract will be worth an estimated 50,000 pounds a week.

Benayoun is thought to be keen on a move to Anfield which is what caused him to hold up on signing the new deal. The deal has been on the table for a month which likely indicates some wink-wink, hold off signing while we prepare an offer.

You're information is a little behind the times there!! The intial reports claimed the bid could be as low as £1m but Liverpool have not only confirmed that they were bidding since, but also confirmed that the figure of £1m isn't even in the same ballpark as the figures that were actually discussed.

Actually, I think its the other way around. Parry was quoted as rejecting the idea that the initial bid was 3m. Whether the negotiations are ongoing and new numbers are being bandied about, I havent seen it yet.
