Premiership elite all tracking Norway’s best player

While Blackburn Rover’s manager Mark Hughes has been adamant that Norwegian international Morten Gamst Pedersen will not be allowed to leave the club, it’s just a matter of time before a deal is made. When you have Arsenal, Manchester United, Liverpool and Tottenham all making inquiries combined with a player who has a release clause in his contract, plus talent galore, it can’t be stopped.

Norway’s best player was in brilliant form all season and at 25, is in the prime years of his career for a winger. He joined Blackburn Rovers in 2004 from Norwegian club Tromso IL. For him, this is the moment for a big money move to a top club and everyone around the player knows it. His agent said:

"All the big five follow Morten’s situation. We are in contact with the clubs" - Agent Rune Hauge

While much of this speculation is being generated from Pedersen’s management, it’s not a fishing expedition. He could easily play for any club out there. So who might realistically sign him?

In my opinion, it’s Tottenham or Arsenal. With Jose Reyes leaving, there is a hole to fill and Arsenal could use a touch more size on the pitch. In addition, Pedersen brings lots of extras to the table like free kicks. Manchester United have already signed 3 midfielders since the end of the season, doesn’t seem likely he’ll go there. Chelsea’s Arjan Robben seems to have dropped the idea of going to Munich and will stay at the Bridge. Tottenham, on the other hand, have lost out on Nani and appear keen to fill the gap on the left. With Berbatov and Keane staying and some good talent across their side, I wouldn’t be surprised if Perdersen would be wooed because of the lack of competition for a place.

Norway`s best player? He failed horribly last night against Malta, and will probably be on the bench for the next game. He`s hopelessly inconsistent!

I as a Liverpool fan think that Pedersen would be a great signing... he's consistently played well against the big teams and scored goals in many of those games... He's definately better than Gonzalez and Zenden that have thankfully been released.

Not difficult to be better than Gonzalez or Zenden. Our Pub Team has a better left side that Liverpool's.

"oh yeah! he's shit alright but he's got a great little arse.. oh and those cute little blonde highlights just do it for me..:

sorry is this a gay blog or do you guys just like holding each others nobs?

you're completely ruling out someone who's clearly not shit and has got bags of potential at 25.. spurs could easily get rid of murphy and ghaly and he'd be a good addition to the squad.

agree with above....

who cares if the guy is a pretty boy. isnt c ronaldo???

pedersen can play and he has great size for a winger we need a left foot at spurs so bring him in

he's a damm primadonna that cares more of he's hairstyle than to die for the team!

i'm curious what will hapend to the younger riise brother, since the older in l'pool seems to be doing well but he's also one primadonna at times. to be from norway and then to see that it's really making me sick, and specially since i'm from Tromsø and born in Finnmark. never thought we could host sutch morons!

I hope he's NOT going to arsenal no matter what!

I have said this in comments I've made in numerous blogs...

I DO NOT WANT MGP. Simple as that. He's hopelessly inconsistant, and I i can't recall he has ever played a good match for the national team. He had a fab goal against Hungary, and that's about it. Last night, at home vs Malta, he was by far the worst player on the pitch.

No thanks. Give me Martin Petrov.

i don't know what the norwegian bloggers amongst this page are basing their facts on.. whether they have seen him develop from a youth, previous teams he's played at before, maybe even his international performances.. but one things for sure he's playing in the premiership now and because of the high quality of football, it has an effect on anyone playing within it who has talent and potential.

he has both.

We are lookin at attetude for one thing, and it bloody suck!

the best norwegian player up to date gotta be Ole Gunnar Solskjær, look at he's attetude and have he evet taken off to become one primadonna ?
THAT is the type of a player i want at Arsenal, not any Riise, Pedersen nor Carew. Arsenal gt anough of primadonnas, they need someone that ain't, like G.Silva!

and while speaking of Solskjær, when was the last time he was arguing over signing under one ManU contract ?
they made the contract, he came and signed and no conflicts on anything!

what primadonna's at arsenal.. no, no they're all solid decent blokes..

jens lehman referring to his fellow goal keeping team mates this weekend:

"I am never certain of being number one keeper at Arsenal, but provided I am fit and have no distractions in my private life, the other keepers cannot hold a candle to me in terms of my experience and ability,"

Pedersen is a good player. Not a great player, but a good player. However, he might turn into a great player, if he gets to play on a world class team with a world class manager. But for now, I think he's mainly too slow to play for the likes of United or Arsenal. He's probably better off in Spurs, I can definitely see him getting a lot of assists with Berbatov as the goalscorer.

And yes, he's been terrible for his national side, but that doesn't mean he's not a good player. When he comes home to Norway, he's treated like a superstar. That's probably why he can't focus and plays badly.

I am spurs fan.
Someone say he is not a player who will die for team ?!?!?!?!
WTF
I don't want spurs sign player who will die, even if it is for team. I want player who will play well !
I definetely prefer alive pplayers. For example, Berbatov played great last season and he did not died. This way we can use him next season again.

6/03/2007 10:48 PM

you want alive ?
I want players that walk to the gates to hell and kick out satan and then gets back again, only for the sake of the TEAM. if he dies and manages to ressurect on the way, i'm happy!

players that gives everything for the team, are ledends!

I cannot see him as one of those players..

i also think alive players are best.

Why would he go to Spurs? It's a sidestep and a guy that eats bread and water for breakfast doesn't seem to be a London type. Besides, Rovers are signing his mate and band member Kristoff Haested.

"Big 5" your having a laugh.

Im a season ticket holder at Blackburn, and I don't understand why Pedersen is in our team week in, week out. He would have no chance of getting in the squad for a top 5 club. If someone offered us £8m id take it and go laughing all the way to the bank. He was hopeless last season. People saw him score 2 goals at old trafford last year, and assumed he was world class, but in truth he is probably only worth £3m

As a Spurs fan, I am a massive admirer of MGP. He's got a fantastic left foot, which even my grandmother knows is what Spurs need. He's proven Premiership standard - we've all seen what he can do (one thing that comes to mind is that excellent cross he played to McCarthy when Blackburn played against Spurs!)
He's truly magnificent - great pace, good feet, an excellent cross and he can't half shoot. Come on Jol, go all out for him, I beg of you!
