I’ll trade your club’s talisman for mine

Barcelona have just placed an offer for Arsenal captain Thierry Henry in exchange for the unhappy Samuel Eto'o, according to reports emanating from Spanish daily newpaper Marca.

According to the paper, the Catalan club are prepared to swap Eto'o plus cash (17m pounds which doesn’t seem right) for Henry. Barca's Director of Football Txiki Beguiristain claimed negotiations with Arsenal representatives about the deal are in progress. Marca claims that Arsene Wenger had given a deal the nod.

Thierry Henry has been criticized recently for a lack of motivation and persistent injuries. Eto’o has fallen out with a number of Barca players and has had problems with coach Frank Rijkaard.

When Henry was offered a chance to quash the speculation in Bejing he was coy:

"For now I'm an Arsenal player. So there is nothing to add to it ... This year it was pretty difficult to see once again that we finished so far away from the top teams. It's been a long time that it's been the same top four. I'm actually getting annoyed that we're finishing at the end of the top four."

Apart from the numbers not adding up, the deal seems eminently doable and indeed could be exactly what both sides need.

Laporta is the man who said he would sign Beckham if he got voted in. Man's a liar without any credibility, so's his club. Maybe Eto'o does want to leave Barca but Henry is going nowhere.

Henry doesn't want to leave, Eto'o doesn't want to leave. Also, why do you hacks only use the second half of the quote? I mean other than sensationalising it and that you've copied the story like everyone else. The first half of the quote is a lot more committed than the bit that sells newspapers and gets people to read blogs. But we are not stupid enough to believe this dribble!

That's crock, the first half of the quote is what every player says regardless of the truth. I mean, what player, under contract is going to say "I want to leave" unless the situation is bad. In Hernry's situation, its nothing to do with a crisis, although he may want to go but he has to play it smart. You really think Henry wants to spend next season at Arsenal if a deal doesnt go thru having shown his cards? It's silly to suggest the beginning of the quote is of any more value than a player kissing the club logo on his shirt when he scores.

what absolute old tonk! if that deal was even close to reality arsene would have to f**king jump at it! Henry(a genius) is not going to get better...E'to is younger, world class..even a straight no cash swap works for arsenal

Laporta may well of said he would deliver Beckham and he tried but he ended up at Real Madrid and who did Barcelona replace that target with ? Ronaldinho so get a grip mate. Eto'o and Ronaldinho dont get on and he is always saying hed love to play in the premiership one day so nows his chance

Get one thing clear.. if henry goes its because we decide to sell. A swap plus a few million would sweeten the deal (not the ridiculous 17m mooted)

Eto'o would only command half henry's wage that alone would be 2-3m savings a year, plus a younger player makes good sense, in a years time at 31 henry's value disappears. I think Arsene will do exactly as he did with Vieira... accept this time with a replacement(or as close as possible) ready made.

Henry's pushing thirty - time toforget the sentiments and get the cash. The way he performed last season, he was already somewhere else - great player for Arsenal over the years but nothing lasts forever.
