Portsmouth about to sign top class player

Ghana international midfielder Sulley Muntari is on the verge of a move to Portsmouth for a club record 7m pounds from Udinese.

The player and club are still to agree personal terms over his transfer, but once resolved, Pompey have landed one of the best young midfielders in the world.

I was very impressed with Muntari, age 22, at the 2006 World Cup. He was tireless, smooth and confident on the ball, teaming up very well with Chelsea’s Michael Essien. He is fluent tactically and his ball-winning skills are both brave and refined. He’s also got excellent range in his passing. The downside? Fearless can turn tempermental, tempermantal can turn rash, and rash can turn into red cards.

Harry Redknapp has been chasing Muntari for a long time but was never prepared to pay the past asking prices, as high as 11m pounds right after the World Cup.

The previous club record was 4.4m pounds for Auxerre striker Benjani Mwaruwari.
