What Everton are up against

Everton face a stiff test tonight in the Champions League 3rd round qualifying. Villareal were a side that bottom fed until last season's surprise into the top of the Spanish table, finishing in 3rd place.

Chilean coach Manuel Pellegrini is La Liga’s version of Bolton’s Sam Allardyce.

Argentine captain Juan Pablo Sorin, former Manchester United striker Diego Forlan, last season’s top scorer in Spain, former Barcelona midfielder Riquelme, former Birmingham City flop Luciano Figueroa and Brazilian Marcos Senna were all in great form last season.

It reads like Bolton Wanderers list of flops from other clubs.

Placed around their best players is a good Villareal midfield. Everton are going to be stressed in the middle of the park.

Villareal match all of Everton’s strengths pretty well. They are quicker than Everton although Everton has the better defense. Everton also have the best player on both teams: Tim Cahill.

Goodison Park in Liverpool is hosting tonight's game which starts in just a few minutes.

Villareal have the better team, Everton may have the better night but will have to do it 2-1 as I see Villareal scoring.

There's no way that Juan Roman Riquelme is not the best player on bothe teams I think you'd be very hard pressed to find a manager who would pick Cahill over Riquelme. Did you watch the confed cup?

Thanks.

I must admit I didnt see Riquelme much in the CC. I would not be suprised though, considering what I've seen of Villareal.

It looks like it was 2-1 the other way. Villareal win.

45' Josico (Villarreal) 2-1
42' - Beattie (Everton) 1 - 1
27' - Lucho (Villarreal) 1 - 0
