Asier Del Horno

The Chelsea puzzle looks almost complete. Early this summer Spanish international left back Asier Del Horno signed for 8m pounds from Spanish club Athletic Bilbao. The 24-year-old agreed a three-year deal and began well yesterday in the uneventful season opening Community Shield.

It was Del Horno who created the opening Chelsea goal with a delicately chipped ball to Didier Drogba, what more could you ask 8 minutes into your Blues career?

The debutant kept pace for the majority of the match but looked more pressured under the pace of a real game. He kept shape with the rest of the back line but late into the match you noticed the left side giving more and more ground as Del Horno tired and even made a few bad passes.

In general though, he’s up to the task. Among what was available, they couldn’t really have done any better. Chelsea have signed a player of equal quality to Paulo Ferreira with polished skills coming into his prime.

I dont think he's better than Ferreira. He was injured most last season.

Ferreira will play on the right and Del Horno on the left. However, I still think that Bridge will work his way back into the team once he's fully recovered. There's no doubting Del Horno's quality though and I think that he and Bridge provide Chelsea with two of the strongest left backs in the Premiership.
