Torres passed medical, unveiled tomorrow
Soon to be former Atletico Madrid striker Fernando Torres has passed his medical exam in Liverpool today and will complete his move tomorrow by signing a contract and being unveiled to the press.
The Liverpool record transfer fee is 26.5m pounds, smashing the previous record fee of 14m pounds for Djibirl Cisse, almost double. The contract will run for 6 years.
The 23 year old Torres has left Liverpool for Madrid where he will hold an exit press conference.
Torres’s replacement is already lined up at Atletico in the name of Villarreal striker Diego Forlan for 14m.
The deal for Torres will finally show that the new Liverpool owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks will put some money where their mouths are.
For Torres, it’s time to put up. Liverpool have purchased a mountain of potential, but he only scored 14 goals in 36 games last season, a similar record in the Premiership will see the flop label land on the player’s boots quicker than you can say ‘not good enough’. 26m+ is a huge sum, the biggest by far of this transfer season for any club in Europe, lets hope the weight of expectation doesn’t create another Shevchenko.
