The greatest penalty ever
Cruff casually stepped up to the spot and chipped the ball slowly to his right, the goalkeeper, confused, reacted by moving to his right, Jesper Olsen casually passed the ball back to Cruyff who walked up to the 6 yard box line and dinked the ball into an empty net. Ajax won the game emphatically 5-0.
Cruyff claims he’d done it once before in the a match played in the snow but I couldn’t find a record of it. This one will have to do.
Years on, Robert Pires and Thierry Henry did a similar trick for Arsenal. Cruyff originated it thought, and here it is:
