Celtic negotiating for Black Star captain

Celtic are moving quickly to secure Ghanaian international Stephen Appiah from Fernebache in Turkey.

Gordon Strachan needs a replacement for Neil Lennon and strength in midfield the 26 year old Appiah appears very close to joining the Scottish giants.

Appiah is the Ghanaian national side’s captain and is a non-stop workhorse midfielder who basically asserts himself everywhere on the pitch. He can play anywhere in midfield even as a striker. I was immensely impressed with him during the World Cup and have wondered for years why a bigger European side has not picked him up. Tactically he’s shrewd as well and has a knack for being where the ball is.

The price tag looks to be about 3m pounds which would be a shrewd signing at a good price.
In 1997 Appiah played for Udinese in Serie A. He spent three seasons with the club, moving to Parma in the summer of 2000. Juventus paid Parma 1.5m pounds in the summer of 2003 to secure Appiah on loan, with an option of a permanent move. Although Appiah lost his place in the team to Manuele Blasi early in his second season, he played 18 Serie A games as Juventus won the Scudetto for the 28th time.
