Viduka signs for Newcastle United

Newcastle United have made the signing of Mark Viduka official. Viduka, 31, comes on a free transfer after rejecting a new contract offered by Middlesbrough.

The Australian international signed a two-year contract with the option of a third.

Viduka will now be competing for a place on the pitch with strikers Michael Owen and Obefami Martins. Coming off a pretty prolific season scoring 19 goals he has a solid chance of a starting spot, especially with all of Martin’s antics and Owen’s history of injury.

Known for his silky passing, great touch, awareness, and ability to hold the ball up, he fits a mold new manager Sam Allardyce likes in his squad. Allardyce had a very similar, albeit less refined player in Kevin Davis at Bolton and certainly got the best out of him.
