Madrid negotiating deal for Chelsea winger

It’s been announced that Real Madrid are hammering out a deal with Premiership club Chelsea to sign Dutch international winger Arjen Robben.

"We are in discussions with Chelsea and the player, they are at an early stage but we hope to sign him, Bringing Robben was one of my pledges when I was running for president and still remains the case." -Real president Ramon Calderon.

The ever frail, sensitive and injured 23 year old Robben’s way of managing his career has apparently clashed too many times with Jose Mourinho. If there ever was a football primadonna who missed matches for a broken fingernail it was Robben. I’ve wondered why he wasn’t sold last season as he proved to me once and for all he’s not a team player but a player’s player, playing at his own convenience and collecting a salary in the process. Now, after another season with very meager returns since his breakout 2 seasons ago, it appears Chelsea are never going to see that player again and want to make a deal. Good move, in my opinion. Flases of brilliance were fleeting.

Robben was reportedly on the verge of signing a new deal with Chelsea until 2012.
