Portsmouth bag smart free transfer

Portsmouth have scooped up former Charlton defender Hermann Hreidarsson on what appears to be a two-year deal. Harry Redknapp has struck again, good player, free.

Hreidarsson had a clause in his contract that allowed him to leave Charlton if they were relegated. He can play both left back and centrally. The 32 year old had made 147 appearances for Charlton in his time there and has moved to Fratton Park just two days after they signed former Manchester City defender Sylvain Distin.

Hreidarsson’s English career seems to have always been attached to a relegation struggle, Crystal Palace in ’97, Wimbledon in 2000, Ipswich 2 years later, and now Charlton. I’m sure Pompey fans hope he does not carry a bad omen. I doubt it, he's always been a good player on bad clubs.
