Liverpool sign Brazilian player of year

Funny, a bit earlier I wrote about a new starlet coming out of Brazil called Lucas Pezzini -then I find out Liverpool has now wrapped up a deal for him.

It looks like it will be an 8m pound deal but is a bit confusing to me. Pezzini is a holding midfielder, and a very traditional one at that. Liverpool have 4 players already that can fill that role -Alonso, Macherano, Sissoko, and even Steven Gerrard. Why sign another? At 20, this kid is ready to play now, he's not going to sit and wait for a few seasons to get his chance. Granted, this kid is tailor made for the English game and is a GREAT signing, but Liverpool could strengthen in other parts of the field where they need it more. Gerrard is already being pushed out wide from the current glut of central midfielders, how will he feel about this?

So, how real is it? Its done. Gremio secretary Alfredo Oliveira told Brazil's Radio Bandeirantes thats its been wrapped up. Liverpool's website has also made it official.

You can read a bit more about your new starlet and see a video of him here.

who cares what Gerrard feels about it, he'll play where he's told to play.

Sissoko and Gerrard aren't holding midfielders anyway, and neither is Lucas.

He is as much a holding midfielder as you are at holding your wanker

"He can play as a holding midfielder but he can also get from box to box" - benitez

I thought his name was Lucas LEIVA?
Or at least thats what the latest reports are saying! Gerrard and Mascharano are the two main and i think Rafa is planning on letting one of Sissoko or Alonso go! Both will bring good money to the club, and as both seem to of gone off the boil this term it might just happen.

Rafa will sign wingers and then play 4-5-1 (or as you like 4-3-3). That means we will field three central midfield players in every match, two holding midfielders and another one a bit higher up the pitch (probably Gerrard). Subsequently there is big demand for central midfielders.

Also: Alonso could be used in a swap-deal with Barcelona for Eto'o ...

good to see us buying young talent thats ready to play now....and the captain of brazil u20's is like something the cunning wenger would have bought.

alonso is on the way by the looks of this but we wont mind that if he's used to get eto'o in.
