The game that brought Ronaldo to Manchester United (video)
The key moment of Cristiano Ronaldo’s career so far was a pre-season friendly in 2003 between Sporting Lisbon and Manchester United to celebrate the opening of Sporting’s new Jose Alvalade stadium.
Sporting ended up winning the match 3-1, Ronaldo was the best player on the pitch by a mile.

Ronaldo impressed everyone at Manchester so much that, on the plane ride home, the players demanded Alex Ferguson sign him which he did for 12m pounds. The newly crowned Premiership player of the year has never looked back so I thought I might, I have prepared a video of his touches in that 2003 friendly:

Wow, he was much thinner then
he's certainly improved alot!
he has improved, but even back then he was extremely hard to contain. i was watching the video as it loaded, and i couldn't wait to see what he did next everytime the video stopped to buffer. extremely impressive stuff. i've been looking for a compilation, with all the clips from those friendly games, for a long time... i'm so glad you made this!
as if saf would have signed him because the players' demanded... what a ridiculous suggestion. he'd have been tracking him for a long time before that game. fascinating use of bold type in your article though.
its amazing how mufc can change a player into sumone world class!
Gary Neville and Ryan Giggs have both confirmed that they approached SAF on the plane on the way home and said that we should buy him cos he was un stoppable for long periods of the game
managers get who their players want all the time... even if it's not the best choice, as long as it meant some of his important player(s) will be happier with the dude in the squad.
is G.milito really that good of a defender? why out of all the people barca wants him? Kompany for example, would be so much better than milito in a year or 2.
I think messi's persuasion played a big part in the dutchman's decision there.
