Chelsea make offer for U-21 standout
Chelsea have made an offer of 4.7m pounds for Dutch Under-21 standout Royston Drenthe. The offer is to buy the player but allow him to remain on loan at Feyenoord for next season before bringing him to London.
Jose Mourinho was impressed by Drenthe because he can play as a left back as well as left-sided attacker and was widely considered the player of the tournament. Peter Bosz, Feyenoord's technical director, has commented that many large clubs are looking to buy the youngster. Drenthe's agent, Andre Wasiman, was in London last week for talks at Stamford Bridge.
A swoop for Drenthe could mean that they intend to sell Arjan Robben after this season. They would probably prefer to move the injury prone winger now, but Feyenoord want to keep Drenthe for sporting reasons and might me more willing to deal with Chelsea should a deal allow them to keep their prized player at De Kuip for another season.
