Downing extending Middlesbrough contract
After a breakout season there was suspicion Stewart Downing would be leaving Middlesbrough this summer.
But after losing midfielder Boudewijn Zenden recently to Liverpool, Middlesbrough could scarcely afford to lose another first team player. 20 year old Downing had already rejected 2 offers by the club.
Tottenham Hotspur seemed to be the most interested party, as they seem to be for just about every mid-priced player in the Premiership. With a 9 million euro offer on the table, Steve McClaren acted quickly and set the left sided player’s contract strait.
The new deal is set to keep Stewart Downing in Middlesbrough for the next five seasons.
