Defoe told to pack up, what is Ramos doing?

You can probably be forgiven for wondering what the hell Juande Ramos is doing at Tottenham. First, the team is barely playing better, is still leaking goals at a break-neck pace from set piece and now has told Jermain Defoe he can leave if he wants to.

Lend Money in the USA and Make Profit!!

Defoe, pride dented, has insisted he wants to stay.

Defoe was just as surprised as I was to learn the news:

"He called me into his office and told me. I thought it was a joke. I thought he was going to say I would be starting against Arsenal in the Carling Cup. He just said 'you can leave if you want to'. Yet I have no intention of leaving this club because I love it here."

Considering Darren Bent has not come full circle, Berbatov’s exit speculation at a fever pitch, and all the other problems at the club you might think Defoe is just the kind of player that Tottenham need on the books at the moment. He’s scored some valuable goals this season and been quite useful off the bench.

The only logic I can see in this is that Ramos has players he wants to sign and needs funds.

How many managers go thru this same cycle? Didn’t Sanchez get fired at Fulham after signing a bunch of players (virtually identical to what he already had by the way) and now it’s up to Roy Hodgson to work with them until he wants his own players.

Doesn’t this revolving door in the Premiership get annoying? New blood can be very useful, just look at Manchester City, but tell me what Tottehnam hope to achieve letting Defoe go?
What about letting Chimbonda go? You know that guy that laughs when he is told to play centrally? Laugh at your salary Pascal and play where you are told and be thankful you have the life you do, instead of being a schlep like me writing a blog.

Defoe, to his credit has said nothing except that he wants to stay. He’s not a problem player, and is willing to fill the role he is given. Has Juande Ramos done anything better than Martin Jol so far? I’d be pressed to find it.

Point taken re Defoe. But re what is Ramos doing better than jol? How about making substitutions that make sense and are bold? We would have lost the UEFA game when were 2-0 down had it not been for Ramos' subs. He's not been able to work miracles - at our level you'd hope the team wasn't so demotivated that he could but he's still the man.;

Maybe he told him he could leave because he is so unbelievably awful it isn't funny anymore.

And just in case I have been a spurs fan for nearly 30 years.

I just wonder if he is not calling Defoe's bluff to get the contract signed. Sign it or leave simple to me.

He's bloody lazy and useless when he starts.

The only way he plays well is with a point to prove.

Ramos could start him for the Arsenal game and watch him get a hattrick just because he's pissed off.

Let him go.Defoe won't sign a new contract and with time running out sell him for 10 million or let him leave for nothing. You don't have to be brilliant to work out which of these is better for the club. What do YOU want? another Sol!

Defoe wasn't told to lewave, he was told that he could. He would have known that already. This is just another "sign a contract or go story".

For gods sake let him go,
his level is next to useless.
He gets the odd goal and looks
pretty good against minnows, in a
cup game at home.
But unfortunately, spends most of his time either getting in the wrong position, or wandering off-side.
Of course he doesnt want to leave
he can spend most of his time warming the bench and doing nothing,
apart from grabbing his over valued
wages.

He should’ve gone 2 seasons ago.
Ramos has spotted his obvious inability to be anything other than be a good kicker/occassional scorer who has no idea of how to stay onside or assist/provide when required (see Berbatov, Keane), thereby usually contributing zilch when the chips are down.

One of the great footballing mysteries is how many Spurs fans really rate him.
You'd think he was Klinnsman.
Can't header, can't work out the off-side rule, can't provide.
I just hope we're not stuck with him as I can't see anyone coming in for him unless they're desperate.
Is it any wonder Berbs looks so frustrated on the pitch when he has Defoe to play with.
Great kicker, crap team player with crap awareness.

hard pressed to think if a guy willing to come off the bench as good as defoe.

And all this talk about being a provider, um, doesnt he come off the bench because they need a goal or a good pass? Sometimes the stupidity of our boys....

um doesn't having a good pass equate to providing?
and wow he really knocks 'em in with that first touch of his.
He gets a few goals against lousy opposition who don't have his number and that's about it but he certainly hasn't fooled Ramos.
