Premiership’s worst three teams so far this season

The Premiership table aside, the three worst teams in the Premiership so far this season are Derby County, Bolton Wanderers and Birmingham City.

Far and away the worst has been Derby. They are a decent side but don’t seem up to the pace and pressure of the Premiership. When you reach the Premiership, you have to spend. Derby has not spent much and it’s showing. Reading was successful last season without spending the money but they were a different side than Derby, Reading could run and score goals. Derby has a shocking -11 goal difference and has yet to score an away goal this season. To stay up your first season in you absolutely must force some draws and an occasional win away. Derby don’t look capable despite a hard fought first win of the season against Newcastle during the week.

Bolton are lost and in freefall. Bottom of the table, they have completely forgotten how to do the basics. Sammy Lee doesn’t seem capable of holding the squad together and is allowing tactical lapses to continue. When you watch this new version of Bolton, you don’t see that compactness of the Allardyce teams of the past. The players lack discipline and this looks like the end result of bringing in a lot of players with past troubles: when you lose a manager capable of keeping the difficult personalities in check, it works, but Sammy Lee just can’t. Bolton have scored three points, and the only light at the end of their defensive trouble tunnel is at least they can score a few goals.

Birmingham has scored a few points this season but it’s been a lucky 7 points. 12th place could easily be 16th as there are a number of teams tied at that points total. Three of Birmingham’s points came against a weak Bolton side, a result badly needed to survive this season but a result achieved amidst a host of problem. The problem with Birmingham is that they are not terrible in any part of the pitch, but they don’t excel anywhere either. A side like that can only really rely on luck to survive this season.

Thanks for that insight. A really useful article no? As if we already dont know our teams are up the creek, you come along. Bored, are you?
Tomorrow you can do an article on how you think Mourinho may have been Portugese.

What utter crap!

Birmingham came within a minute of beating Sunderland and performed very well against Chelsea.

The secret to our survival is beating the teams forming part of our mini-league and we are on course to do that.

Do you seriously think that Wigan or Fulham are that much better than Birmingham?

Thanks for that insight. My granny could tell you about Derby. As for Bolton & Brum - how did you differentiate between them & Wigan, Fulham, Reading, Sunderland, Pompey... ...pull 'em out of a hat? The wheels going round but the hamsters dead!

I take it that with such a detailed insight into the performances of all 3 teams you've watched all of their matches so far this season?

Or have you watched the highlights on Match Of The Day?

I agree with the earlier comment, "what upper crap"! I'm just sorry I wasted my time reading such rubbish!

What do you think the league table is for?????
You start by saying, "...the three worst teams in the Premiership so far this season are..." - then choose 2 of the bottom 3 (makes sense) & a team in 12th!!!!!
How does that work?
Surely "the three worst teams in the Premiership so far this season are" - the BOTTOM 3 !!!!
I got no affiliation with Birmingham but you seem to have a big problem with them.
What is it? Your favourite colours are claret & blue or you can't navigate spaghetti junction :-)

Hmmmmmmmm. I'm devastated. I actually took in everything you wrote, then checked the BBC website & was shocked!!!
The worse 3 teams so far this season are;

Bolton - 3pts
Derby - 4pts
Reading - 4pts

However, I wont call you a liar.

I will give you the benefit of the doubt & call you a little bit dim. After all, like Meatloaf sang, "2 outa 3 ain't bad".

If you're supposed to be some kind of expert then you're talking out of your a*se !! Birmingham one of the 3 worst teams in the Premiership ?? If not for some poor goalkeeping we should have gotten something against Chelsea, we should have beaten Sunderland but for a dodgy last minute equalising goal, and maybe a point against West Ham if Bellamy hadn't dived ! Apart from the Middlesborough where we were poor we should have taken soemthing from every game we've been involved in. If you look at some the statistics we're far from being one of the worst teams in the Premiership, we're one of the highest goal scorers in the division as well as lying second to Arseanl for the goals to shots ratio. What a muppet !!!

Couldn't agree more with these posts. Birmingham may well be one of the worst three teams in the Prem (we'll see in May), but there are plenty of teams who have been worse than them so far this season (Spurs for one), which, after all, is the title of your blog. Whilst not performing brilliantly, they've been a muppet keeper and appaling injury time refereeing decision away from 3 points at Stamford Bridge and against West Ham and Sunderland at home,(two of which are in the top five). Whilst luck does even itself out over the year, it's ludicrous to suggest they are lucky to have the as many seven points when they could easily have 15. Oh, and the reason they're 12th and not 16th is not beacuse they're lucky, but because they've been good enough to score more goals than pretty much any team in the bottom half. Reading on the other hand have been woeful, but presume because they did well last season, that means their performances THIS season are not so bad? Ludicrous - go and watch some games.

Purely clairvoyant - amazing how you considered this and came up with this insight. Well i reckon Man U, Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal will do well this season - there, that's leading with your chin!

Did you write this piece with your favourite crayon, then Mummy typed it so you could see it on the compooter?

Either you *are* seven-and-a-half years old, or seven-and-a-half just happens to be the age at which your intellect stopped developing.

Stop!

Take a course in creative writing, journalism, woodwork, whatever - but don't write any more of this insipid tosh - until you can at least make yourself sound 'informed.'

I'm a bluenose and am well aware of the difficulties we face in staying in the Prem this season, so I expect to see a little negativity about our chances of success. What I don't expect to see is absolute idiots writing the kind of uninformed article that my football-apathetic girlfriend would be embarrased to put her name to.

Could you name 5 players from any of the three teams you commented on? I doubt it you twat.
