Arsenal pipped, French star heading to Germany

Arsenal target Franck Ribery has signed for Bayern Munich. Much speculation had it a done deal the French international would become a Gunner this summer but Bayern, cashing in on Owen Hargreaves, had the money in hand and bested all comers for the Olympique Marseille winger.

The 24-year-old has moved in a deal worth around 10m pounds, a bargain in my mind. Bayern, who will be missing out on the Champions League for the first time in forever are apparently looking to revamp parts of the squad, they have also signed German international fullback Marcell Jansen from Borussia Moenchengladbach.

Now with 16 caps, Ribery shone in last year’s World Cup and has been chased by a host of clubs ever since. He’s a tenacious player who will probably thrive in Germany.

Rumours circulated in October 2006 that Marseille had already reached an agreement with Arsenal for the player. This was denied by the Marseille management who that the club ‘would not sell their best players’. Should have added ‘...unless the price is right’ to that quote.

Utter bollox. Why would Ribery move from Marseilles who have qualified for the Champions League and move to Bayern who havent? He has lots of clubs in better leagues than the Bundesligue after him so why would he head to Bavaria? Makes no sense. Bullshit.

Ribery has said all along that he wants Champs League footy or he'd stay at MArseilles. Bayern didnt qualify so there is NO WAY that he will sign for them

Don't think so mate. £10m is too cheap and Bayern aren't in the CL. Ribery would probably cost at leat half as much again and he'd get better wages in the Prem or in Italy. This is a bullshit story.

utter shit i honestly believe he is an arsenal player he came out and said that he dreams of playing in the prewm or la ligue he publically admitted that germany did nt tempt him. i also remember a curtain rosicky sighning a pre contract in january and then joining in the summer. same reports with frank lets hope same results. a player who can hold the width and get in behind just what we have lacked all season.

he may be right but sources have indicated that saviola is going to arsenal on a free.

so if ribery is really going to BM so be it.

saviola can play wide as well.

sorry but that information is utter BS as it is understood that bayern have indeed bid €15m but nothing is done plus his salary ambitions on top of his very well stated need of champions league means bayern is a no go. As a frenchman i would love to see him as a gooner but real are a bigger contender from what i understand as they are perhaps on the brink of a la liga title. check ur sources before making such firm yet unconfirmed statements. What are the nes on malouda? wenger said before that it was a player he admired... to be seen
I sill thing that morten gamst pedersen would be a cheaper option than either and he has proven his talent in the PL already so he should be our target for a good winger!

Yeah agreed, load of utter ficticious crap. The writer should be ashamed. Making up headlines to make people dollow your links. You sir is what is wrong with online Football Journalism. For shame...tut tut tut! A plague on both your houses!

I doubt this message as well but I'd like to stress that the Bundesliga would be a good move for him. It's certainly a step up from the French league and you only get to play good teams in the Bundesliga. La Liga and the Prem got 3 or 4 good teams, the rest are less than mediocre. And the Italian league is a mess anyway.

Ribery has signed for Bayern. It will be made official next week. Even Wikipedia has his current club as Bayern Munich:
"Franck "Bilal" Ribéry (born April 1, 1983 in Boulogne-Sur-Mer) is a French football player who currently plays for Bayern Munich"

1. Wikipedia mentions nothing about Bayern.
2. Wikipedia said for a time that Beckham was a chinese goalkeeper from the 16th century.

Where did you source this story from? Where are the quotes? Seems odd he would go for 8m less than the asking price to a club out of the CL when he said he would stay at Marseilles if they qualified!!!

Where did u get that information tweedle dumb nuts. Why would he firstly move to Bayern who are in the UEFA cup, and marseille in the champions league and secondly, miss out on the chance of playing at arsenal with the likes of Henry. You need your head checked u fantastic spastic

I would say he is looking out for the long term. Bayern might have missed out this season but long term they are there every season. Consider that Arsenal have missed out and they are doing a bit of tweaking to a young side, Bayern are a mature lot. I dont doubt hes going. I have heard other players say they must have CL and go to a club that doesnt

Good God, if you want any credibility whatsoever, do not quote wikipedia.

But my personal opinion is he will sign for Bayern. To much money there and, as for the CL, they will be there next year...and the year after that.

"miss out on the chance of playing at arsenal with the likes of henry"

For a start Henry will be at Barca next season. And at Bayern he can play with the likes of Sagnol,Lucio and Luca Toni. Good move for Ribery

10mil is too much. He's not what Arsenal need. Good move for Bayern, though.

he's obviously looking at the long term, Bayern are in the CL every year and here he can play alongside the likes of Van Bommel, Sagnol, Lucio, Toni (presumably). We are finally signing some decent players for once :)
