Letter to Figo: lower your price, join Arsenal or Liverpool

Dear Luis,

Your wage demands are in the 90 thousand pound per week range. You should face the footballing reality that you are over 30.

Generally this means that you are off the top wage plateau my friend. Its time for you to lower your expectations and play for a top English club next season like Arsenal or Liverpool, where I think you would do so well.

You’ve been turned down, scared everyone away with the 90k, so come back at 40k or something and profess “I want to play here regardless of money”, give the teams space to add more pieces, you wont regret it. They want you!

I’ve watched you since your Sporting Lisbon days, so I expect you won’t let money get in the way of playing for Liverpool or Arsenal next year. There was that thing when you left Barcelona for Real Madrid, but this is how you can prove the critics wrong. Sign for less.

I dont want this fat pre-madonna any where near Arsenal. He would stop the development of our youngsters such as Quincy, Fabregas and Smith. Figo together with Real Madrid represent everything I hate about football. If he ever steps onto the Highbury turf he will have another pigs head thrown at him. He has no morals, ethics and is a money grabing slut.

Figo together with Real Madrid has been a complete success and Figo has won everything with the club. You are simply just jeaolus when you say that Figo is a fat primadonna. Therry Henry in Arsenal is the most arrogant man in the world. And by the way does anyone of your "youngsters" come from I dont know.. Perhaps England?
Real Madrid has a lot of young talents who actually come from Spain and Madrid and sometimes they do make it to the first team. Take Raul and Guti as examples Real can feel a lot more proud about them than Arsenal can about players like Fabregas. Hala Madrid!

What does it matter that Arsenal's youngsters aren't English? Would they be better if they were? Also, saying Thierry Henry is arrogant says to me, and any objective person out there, that you have nothing reasonable to say. Lastly, who in their right mind would pay Figo those types of wages? If he is such a success at Real, why is Real letting him go?

Lets look at Arsenal British talent: David Bentley, 19 regular for Norwhich, they got relegated, but he was one of their better performers. Jermaine Pennant, starter at Birmingham. Julian Gray, starter at Bimingham. Steven Sidwell considered as the best midfiedlder, if not player, of the Coca Cola championship this season. Then We have ashley cole who went through and is arguably the best L back in the world. And justin Hoyte coming up in the wings. They are not arsenal players anymore but that is because they were not good enough. But are still premiership level players. And if you look a english talent that went through apart from Rooney, Lampard, John Terry and Wright Phillips, there hasnt been any other english player, in recent times, who could have started in the arsenal squad before the age of 21/22. And look at the price they are rated at Rooney went to Man Utd for £27M, Lampard went for £8M but he wasnt worth that then, Terry would fetch well above £18M, and SWP is going around the £20M mark. Arsenal never had that kind of money to spend on one player.

Yes i did forget gerrard, but carragher is 26 now, he only started to play noticeably well over the last two season, as a youngster he wouldn't have made it.

P.S he is not better than Campbell, he is ahead of Senderos, granted, but senderos is 18/19, give him another season's experience and he will be better than Carragher IMHO.

Wayne,

Figo is in his thirties, but he's no relic.

Yes, alot of matches in those legs, but Figo is a wiley player and has adapted well to his lost pace.

A couple of seasons ago Figo had a bad season (many, even I thought he'd had it) but he came back the next season better adjusted to his loss of pace.

Figo is the KING! Liverpool would be lucky if they get him. An advise to Liverpool: Pay what ever necessary to get this legend home!

Peace,

It is crazy to say Liverpool should pay 'whatever it takes' to get a player to join them. If Figo were the class player he was in the past then of course any team would jump at the chance and Real would rebuff all attempts to sign him. Come on, the guy is over 30 but he still has a year on his contract and yet Madrid are prepared to give him a free transfer. What does that tell you?

Think about it, to sign Figo on £90k a week but no transfer fee sounds good until you do the maths. We would have to offer him a two year contract so that is £9 million in wages and definitely a signing on fee of £1 million plus. So, over the two years he would cost us £10,000,000 which is a stonking amount in these days of depressed prices. To pay that for a player who is clearly not the player he was but clearly does have plenty of experience to offer just doesn't make sense.

I think if Figo was available for £50k a week, Liverpool would sign him straight away but not a chance at £90k.

Let's bring this back to the real world here. We are talking about paying a bloke over the age of 30 to kick a ball around for one or maybe two games (in a week) and be paid what a qualified nurse in Liverpool earns for SIX YEARS of work! And I can tell you straight away which one would be more committed to their job!

I really don't agree with figo coming to england - he's past his best. He's still a good player mind but if real madrid show that they don't want him anymore why would arsenal or liverpool want him anyway. Liverpool and arsenal do not want to sign players that cannot get into another big club - it would be settling for second best.

I think figo is a fantastic player but 90k a week is ridiculous - he's after one last pay day and 1 stupid premiership club will give him it! If liverpool sign him i can see another harry kewell appearing - and nobody wants to see that happening

Why did you put ANONYMOUS if you are so brave and say these things about Figo ?
