Finally, Manchester City make smart signing

Manchester City have signed quality Bulgarian winger Martin Petrov from Atletico Madrid. After a series of underwhelming signings (to the disagreement of many City fans), this move is fantastic for City. Petrov has played well in every league he’s joined and at 28 has the right experience level to help a club that needs just that.

For 4.7m pounds the Bulgarian international is a bargain. Skilled, direct, and with a good footballing brain, he is a complete winger that City are lucky to get. After 13m pound Simao Sabrosa joined Atletico, Petrov is seen as surplus to requirements.

Petrov has agreed a three year deal and has already passed a medical. Heavily linked with Tottenham over the last few days, Sven-Goran Eriksson has pulled a small coup and given his team just what they need: a player than can get the ball down the field and in the box.

Petrov, capped 60 times, started out at CSKA Sofia. He had a spell in Switzerland where he caught the eye of German outfit Wolfsburg where he was highly regarded. He left for La Liga and Atletico Madrid in 2005 where he has been since. Steadily, he was moving west and now North.

Here is a video of some highlights from his spell in Germany:

there you go at it again. Go and check the City messagboards and find a majority or even a significant ammount moaning about the players we siggned so far you wont. Please do some proper researce and report properly if you are to talk about our club. I just sense a little agenda from a jealous fan.

typical - I have not a heard or read a single complaint about any of Sven's signings so far.
I suggest you do at leasta little research before posting your pathetic comments in future

You certainly don't speak for me regarding the transfers; i for one, along with a vast majority of blues are completely satisfied with all of the signings so far, and i would prefer it if you kept your, so obviously agendered comments to yourself. In summary, Feck off!

by the sounds of things you havent got a clue what ur talking about, you look at bianchi he has scored prob more goals then a couple of our strikers did all last season. All the signings so far look to be of top quality. Dumb Ass

The comments to this article have made a much better read than this obviously uneducated soul. Being a blue is more than any player we buy, However, this recent crop have all been good value and shroud investments in an ever overrated market. Keep it up Sven.

D'oh! We may call the Munichs for living in Singapore, but at least most of them can read and understand English.

I could honestly care less whether City fans agree. I write what I think and when it happens to disagree with the majority opinion, so be it.

I can assure you in a year (or maybe less if its obvious) their will either be an article admitting I was wrong or I was right. If you finish 12th, I was right by the way, so no "wa, wa, it's a building process" crybaby talk because the way you guys sound, you are in for a UEFA place.

Read the blogs history, I was never afraid to admit I was wrong (like about Drogba) or right (like the time all of Liverpool pillored me for saying Benfica would win against them in the CL 2 seasons ago and did)

get a grip. city supporters seem to like the new signings--almost anything will be better than last year. i read your previous blog on sven's "poor" signings and don't compare bianchi to samaras, not yet anyway. plus you'd get graveson?? he didn't even play towards the end of last season in the spl but surely can come back to england and do a job??? are you danish?

what i cant understand is that every team...good or bad have brought players in who have an excellent pedigree and through no fault of the manager or club... they fall on theyre arses.............eg...paborsky, schevcenko, forlan, owen. the players city have bought are quality players and if they dont make it, then they dont make it. part of being a manager. Bianchi - 18 goals in serie a...worth a gamble
Fernandez, up and coming quality player...worth a gamble
giovani.....watch the films on youtube....quality.
Im assuming that commentator is a 8 year old kid who thinks class players only play for utd or real.

your wrong pa; you said that city fans were giving a luke warm reception to the signings. That isn't your opinion is it, that is you telling us our opinion when it couldn't be further from the truth.

FACT. if you were a man you'd retract that statment as its clearly got no substance

I don't want to discuss your particular opinion of our signings for good or for bad, you are entitled to your opinion, but I think the problem that some of the City readership have with your article is that it appears that you are saying that many City fans disagree with the first signings that Sven has made. Obviously, if one reads City message boards, most are quite happy with the way things have been going over the past couple of weeks. After reading your previous article I can see that that was not what you were implying, but on first reading this article that is what I thought also.

Thanks for mentioning that, I was about to post a comment asking exactly where I indiciated City fans were not happy with the signings either.

So far Sven's signings have been a Godsend, and Petrov being the pick of the bunch doesn't mean that the rest of the signings aren't a good bit of business too. Find one person who's complaining about our signings, then check they're not a munich

Nice reply asswipe! If your supposed to be such a great journalist/writer, how come its so difficult for you to grasp the English language? I quote..."I can assure you in a year (or maybe less if its obvious) their will either be an article admitting I was wrong or I was right." The Oxford English dictionary describes the word THEIR as 'used to refer to one person in order to avoid saying 'his or her'. I think you meant to write there meaning 'used to introduce sentences, especially before the verbs be, seem and appear'. But dont let this glaringly obvious lack of correct grammar spoil your little story...LOSER!

Dude, the article is a toss, but wtf with the english lesson?

I thought I had just walked into a room full of scholars with their bifocals half way down their nose as they contemplate the meaning of "is".

Get a life, mate, she used the wrong word.

im happy with the signings so far, am glad to see a good mixture of youth and experiance. the thing is sven wants to get the ball in to the box so to buy two wingers states that he is attempting to sort out the goalscoring problems from last year. i also think samaras will come on under sven and hopefully we can get consistency from him because when he is playing well he looks a good player but sadly we dont see it enough. i would like to see an experianced defender join next to replace distin. good luck sven as the city job isnt a easy one but you have the backing of most of the fans.

Well whoever writes this, you seem to be confused about the difference between stating your opinion (fine) and stating bollocks (city fans displeased with Sven's signings). If you don't think it is bollocks, some sources and references please, as all the City fans I know are dead chuffed so far, and most of the blogs/msg boards concur.

So?

I think he meant his original article was to the disagreement of many city fans, as that article caused so many of you to whimper in disgust. Don't forget, english isn't his first language (from what I can tell of FC's posts) so sometimes you have to read between the lines friends!
